Meet our Volunteers - Veronika
Volunteer Veronika
How did it all happen?
After running my own business for years, I was looking for a change.
Having supported local people and local businesses in the past, I was looking to help my town.
The Ripple Retreat is right at my doorstep and I always wondered how it operated and who was behind the scenes of this stunning building.
Then I met Lynne. She was friendly and told me al about the operation of the Ripple Retreat and a week later welcomed me into her team…and days later my phone rang.
It was Shonagh, Lynne’s right hand man, Lynne had had a very bad fall, breaking her shoulder and she asked me to go to the Ripple Retreat and prepare it for visitors. It took some time to figure how to get into the plant room and change the code for the guests but I got there and I’m still here and happy to assist with anything that is needed.
One of my main duties is to help with the maintenance of the Ripple Retreat. I have been working on Risk Assessment and Health and Safety rules and regulations along with volunteer induction process.
Living so close to the Ripple retreat allows me to check on the building and garden on the regular basis, making sure the laundry gets done and that it is ready for the next family and it’s amazing to have help from others who come from as far as Edinburgh.
We have such great team. Marion makes sure there is no dust in the scullery, Helen is the oven master and Tara makes the welcome packs perfect. Martin looks after the birds and outdoor toys, Arlene sprinkles magic dust on the flower borders….and there’s so many more.
I love listening to the volunteer’s story. To hear what they doing and how passionate they are makes me so proud to be part of it all.
Being part of the welcoming team at the Ripple Retreat is very special, to be there for the families during they stay.
They are overwhelmed with what they receive from It’s good 2 give also at the Ripple Retreat and to see the looks on the faces of the families is truly special.
If you live near and want to help with our beautiful garden, do get in touch. We always appreciate a little helping hand.
