Meet Gillian

Gillian is a good friend and an amazing supporter of our charity. She is a regular volunteer at our Ripple Retreat helping out with a variety of tasks.

Read our latest blog to find out more about Gillian and her involvement with It’s good 2 give.

“I first learnt about It’s good 2 give when I took part in Pedal for Scotland as a member of the Pedal 4 Paul team. I love cycling and got involved in the fundraising, cycling with about fifty other It’s good 2 give supporters. I also held a bbq and bike service workshop from my house.

It was here I learnt what It’s good 2 give meant to Paul, who sadly lost his battle with cancer, and his family. At the BBQ I also met Tabby, a young cancer patient who is an It’s good 2 give Young Ambassador and her dad, Graham who is a Parent Ambassador. Tabby was going through treatment at that time and told me how the charity supported her and her family. I was so impressed I wanted to get involved and do my bit to help.

Since then, I have supported It’s good 2 give by fundraising and volunteering. I have taken part in another Pedal 4 Paul cycle, several Kiltwalks and last year I walked 2020 miles! I have volunteered at many of the charity’s events, helped prepare the Ripple Retreat for families and delivered merchandise. I am willing to turn my hand to most things - power washing paths, cleaning, bed changing, small DIY jobs.

In the last two years I have started working part time which has allowed me to volunteer on a more regular basis. I was also in a bubble during lockdown with the charity’s co-founders Lynne and Ian which meant I could help even more.

I particularly love volunteering at the Ripple Retreat and working outdoors. I am a very practical person and am not phased by getting a bit grubby, so whether power washing the paths or scrubbing goose poo away, I am happy to help. I love order and neatness too, so getting stuck into the cleaning, and making sure everything is just ready for the next family makes me happy.

An added bonus to volunteering is that I can often squeeze in a walk with Lynne at the end of the day, who is now a good friend, and I’m getting fitter!”

Thank you to the moon and back Gillian, for all you do!
