Meet our Volunteers - Paul
As we continue our series of blogs on our volunteers, next up is Paul.
Paul is from Glasgow and has been part of our team for some time.
Here’s his story:
What volunteering do you do with
It’s good 2 give?
I have volunteered at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, as a friendly face at It’s good 2 give’s Pitstop cheering on walkers, handing out water and refreshments, usually dressed as a squirrel! I also help out at evening events assisting with donations and raffles.
How did you start volunteering with
It’s good 2 give?
Through other volunteering roles, I met an It’s Good 2 Give Ambassador who subsequently contacted me asking if I wanted to help at an upcoming charity event. The rest, as they say, is history!
Why do you volunteer with It’s good 2 give?
I volunteer because I can! It’s fun, I meet new people and it gives me an opportunity to give something back to those going through difficult times. Supporting the charity in the fantastic work they do for children and their families by volunteering my time and skills brings me a sense of pride and a great sense of personal satisfaction.
How did you start volunteering?
I started many years ago when I was asked if I wanted to volunteer at a sporting event for a sport which I played and was interested in. I got a great sense of pride being part of the team of volunteers that made the event happen every year - it could not run without volunteers! I was subsequently fortunate to be a volunteer in three World Championship sporting events that Glasgow proudly hosted and I am proud to be a Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Clydesider, a role which gave me a feeling of well-being and satisfaction, helping the many international visitors to Glasgow that I encountered during the Games. I still get a warm feeling when I see a someone in their Clydesider uniform.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I’ll regret saying this, but I do love a dance, especially if it’s a disco tune.
Even better if I’m disguised in a squirrel suit.
