Vein Finders for Children's Hospitals

This month Shonagh and Lynne, along with two of our Charity Ambassadors Kev and Catherine from ArtFe, delivered much appreciated vein finders to ward 6A (Oncology) at the Glasgow Children’s hospital and ward 2 at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh thanks to funds raised by our supporters.

Vein finders, which cost £5,500 each, are devices that help doctors and nurses find veins in patients helping to reduce the stress of having to keep trying multiple times to successfully take blood or insert a cannula. Hemoglobin in the blood absorbs infrared light. When the device is held above the skin, veins appear noticeably different than the surrounding tissue. The vasculature shows up clearly on the skin’s surface, aiding in vein location for access and avoidance.

Emma, Senior Charge Nurse and Veronica, Ward Clerkess in Glasgow, were delighted to receive the vein finder for their ward and said :

"I know how super helpful the vein finder will be for young cancer patients, and help the parents and staff also, to deliver much needed care at difficult times.'

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us raise money for this vital equipment and other things we do to make a difference to the life of young cancer patients.
