Meet our Volunteers - Mary

I first heard about It’s good 2 give after meeting the Byrne family in 2012.

The charity supported them and their precious daughter Evie. Evie’s big brother Alfie was in my group at Nursery and the family became very close to my heart. Evie’s mum Shonagh and big brother Alfie became very much involved in the charity after their gorgeous girl lost her battle with cancer.

I have volunteered at lots of events including the glittery Ripple Ball and Blingo, which in my opinion, are as just as much fun when you are a volunteer!

Recently I have volunteered at the Rugby bucket collections at Murrayfield, which although sometimes a tad chilly, we manage to have some laughs.

Every Christmas we have a bag packing event at M&S at The Gyle, Edinburgh. A great chance to wear a Santa hat as you view all the festive treats.

I have walked the Edinburgh Kiltwalk twice. With my daughter Robyn for the first time in 2018 and then with ten colleagues in 2019. Our walk was dedicated to one of our Nursery boys Harry, who unfortunately was diagnosed with leukaemia just before the walk.

We raised over £12,000!

By far my favourite volunteering role is the chance to spend time as part of the Housekeeping team at the Ripple Retreat. The peace and tranquility that envelopes the Retreat, stays with you long after you return home after a day cleaning and preparing it for another special family to visit and make precious memories.

I wanted to become a volunteer to help support the charity and pay some kindness forward, but in actual fact I have benefited in so many ways. I have met so many wonderful and genuinely amazing people through volunteering, who I’m sure will be lifelong friends.

I am proud to be part of the It’s good 2 give! volunteer family ❤️
