Investing in Volunteers
When Lynne and Ian McNicoll set up It’s good 2 give in 2010 it was to support young cancer patients and their families – that was always their number one priority – but it was also to encourage people to consider volunteering.
This was included in the application to The Scottish Charity Regulator, OSCR when we applied for charitable status and was very important to both Lynne and Ian.
Lynne had been volunteering full time for four years at this point and loved it, finding the experience very rewarding. She wanted to encourage others to try it too. whether it was for It’s good 2 give or other charities. This is something Lynne tells our Young Ambassadors regularly. They may be volunteering for us right now and we hope they will continue to volunteer for the rest of their lives whether for us or any other charity.
Since 2010, It’s good 2 give has grown its volunteering roles and we now offer several areas for people to volunteer in.
In 2019 our volunteers were recognised for their work through the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – an award we are all very proud of.
Not a charity that rests on our laurels, we all wanted to do more. More for our volunteers and with our volunteers. So we applied to the Investors in Volunteers Board for their accreditation. It isn’t easy to get and you have a rigorous assessment process.
We are delighted to share that thanks to Angela Preston, our Trusts and Funds Manager, Jane Lothian, our Volunteer Manager and not forgetting Shonagh Byrne who, over many years, has helped manage and care for our volunteers, we have been awarded this accreditation.
Lynne McNicoll said
“I am super proud of every one of our volunteers and if you want to join our team we would love to hear from you! Well done Angela, Jane and Shonagh and heartfelt thanks to all who volunteer for us now and who have volunteered for us in the past.”
