End of Treatment Bells for Children at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children

An ‘End of Treatment’ bell is a familiar sight in many hospitals across the world.

Often accompanied by a rainbow, ringing the bell marks the end of cancer treatment for a patient and is regarded as a sound of hope for the future and for other patients.

Ringing the bell plays a huge part in many young cancer patients journeys and plays a great significance in marking their return to a more normal life for them and their families.

At the moment, due to COVID-19, patients are unable to ring the ward bell so we were asked by the ward manager of the children’s oncology ward at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children if we could help patients continue this tradition through this difficult time. So we put together an end of treatment pack for the children and young people leaving the ward which includes a t-shirt, card and of course their own bell to ring and take home.

“Ring this bell, three times well,
It’s toll to clearly say

My treatment’s done, this course is run
and I am on my way!”

We would thank Kirsty at Caledonian Clothing for designing the t-shirt with a bell on the front and our printers Captivate Creative for creating and printing the ‘on the mend’ cards.
