Eliza and Melinda - Fundraising Stars
We would like to say a massive well done and thank you to Eliza and Melinda Tetley for all the hard work they put into Young Ambassador Eliza’s Fundraising Bookshop and their generous donations from the shop’s proceeds to It’s good 2 give.
As you may know, mother and daughter Melinda and Eliza set up the fundraising bookshop as a Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering task for Young Ambassador Eliza during lockdown as volunteering in the usual ways wasn’t possible during this time.
Over 3000 books were gifted to their amazing initiative from people throughout Edinburgh and beyond between May and September. Melinda then set up a Facebook page to make these available for anyone to purchase and the books were cleaned and collection arranged in a safe and socially distanced way to raise money for local charities.
It’s good 2 give was one of the lucky charities to benefit from the bookshop along with Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts; Gorgie City Farm Food Bank; One Stop Shop in Broomhouse and Holy Trinity food bank in Wester Hailes.
The money raised and donated to It’s good 2 give, an amazing £5131, will be used to be provide supermarket vouchers and other practical support to families of young cancer patients in Scotland.
Many parents who have a child with cancer have to cut back on their working hours or give up their jobs altogether and this can have a major financial impact on many families. These vouchers will make a big difference to them, especially during the current pandemic.
Now that Eliza is back at school, the shop has been closed. Most unsold books have been donated to charity shops, nurseries and school libraries which will in turn help many others. Some book sets and some signed books have been donated to us to auction at a future date.
Eliza and Melinda have made a huge difference to so many people this summer.
Heartfelt thanks from Lynne and the team at It’s good 2 give.
