Donald Doolan - Marathon Man and Kiltwalker!
Our supporter Donald Doolan tells us about his alternative marathon this year and his plans to walk the Virtual Kiltwalk to support It’s good 2 give.
It seems a long time ago that I decided to run the London Marathon.
I had a serious accident around 4 years ago and following the accident I had started to run as a form of both physical and mental therapy.
When I had made up my mind to do the marathon the first charity that came to mind for me to support was It’s good 2 give. I had known the charity through friends and family and just hugely admired the team at the charity and the children and their families who were supported. it is an amazing charity with amazing people.
Alas it was not to be, with the marathon cancelled due to the pandemic I needed to come up with a Plan B to both keep my training going and to support the charity. I decided crazily to run the marathon in my home village. I knew it would be tough I just didn’t know how tough!
I had friends and family cheering me on in a socially distanced way and joining by zoom to see me do my laps of the village.
The charity and this support was what kept me going to finally finish the 26 miles on the day of the marathon.
I was overjoyed to finish and the amazing people who sponsored me raised a brilliant amount of money for the charity. Not only did I run the marathon but my friends, family, clients and well wishers all did their bit to total 60 marathons, I was truly blown away by the support.
I feel very lucky to have had a phone call to say I will hopefully be able to run the marathon in London, more news to follow…..
In the meantime I thought I might fit in the kiltwalk. This is new to me but I really want to continue to support the charity and the work they do.
Why not join me whilst I wear my kilt too and become part of the It’s good 2 give Kiltwalk team!
