Meet one of our newest supporters - Stuart

We’re always delighted when we hear of new people supporting our charity and helping us spread the word about the work we do to help young cancer patients and their families.

When we found out about the fantastic fundraising Stuart had done for us over Christmas we couldn’t have been happier. That’s why we asked him to tell you all, in his words, what he’s been doing and why he decided to support our charity.

Over to Stuart:

I didn’t know anything about “It’s good 2 give” until my wife Jacqui signed up for a trek to raise money for IG2G in Brazil which should have been back in 2020 but COVID took care of that!

It’s now Vietnam and October/November this year which is great. Jacqui and her ‘Team Rio’ friends enabled me to get involved and I started to learn of the fantastic work they do and the outstanding Ripple Retreat and what this gives families of those affected by cancer. Furthermore I later found out that the charity was of huge value to the support of the Markham Family who are good friends of ours when their young daughter Hayley was fighting the disease. Hayley beat cancer and I know how much It’s good 2 give means to her and her family.

With all of the above how could I not try and do my bit…

So as well help a little with my wife’s fundraising with a Burns Supper and some bag packing I wanted to do something else and with a good network of friends, colleagues and supplier’s in hospitality I thought over Christmas I would do a series of raffles to raise money. My industry pals came through big time and I never once expected it to be so well received. Very quickly we established a 350 strong Facebook group where I have been raffling off these great donations and a few I have purchased to spice it up a little.

Every day or so in December Jacqui and I would sit and sell tickets and once they are sold out I would do a live draw showing off my stunning array of Christmas jumpers… of which I wear at least a different one each day in December.

I have done this as bit of fun over the last few years and wanted to make it worthwhile this year linking a Just Giving page to It’s good 2 give.

So far we have raised a very respectable £4734 and I am not done yet!

I could not have done any of this without the support of my industry friends. Although there are too many to mention, between them all they donated, overnight stays, afternoon teas, weekend breaks, dinners, golf days, deer, whisky, gin experiences, gift vouchers and lunches PLUS we have 2 places at Nick Nairn’s cook school still to go.

It’s been great fun seeing how excited people get to bag a bargain and to be supporting such a good cause.

I plan to continue to fund raise personally but also as a business Fusion Group UK of which I am Director will be supporting Its good 2 give as an official charity partner in 2021.

I will be working with Lynne and her team, as well as mine to see where collectively we can raise awareness and much needed funds… 2020 was a disaster for charities so it’s never been so important.

A massive thank you to Stuart, his friends and his family for all they have done and are doing for our charity.
