Donations for the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh
On Monday, 2 November, It’s good 2 give delivered a different kind of gift to the staff at Ward 2, of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh.
Lead Volunteer Marion dropped off a model of a human brain, a Chester chest dummy with standard arm and a pediatric lumbar puncture simulator.
These models will be used by the nurses in the ward to aid them in explaining procedures to young cancer patients, their parents and carers too. By showing them how procedures work in practice, it helps to make them less daunting for the patients and their families.
The brain model is a great educational tool for learning about the human nervous system and anatomy of the brain.
Chester Chest™ makes it possible to teach and practice the infusion, withdrawal, care, securement and dressings of multiple vascular access lines.
The pediatric lumber puncture simulator Targets key skills specific to pediatric lumbar puncture procedures, supporting the nurses in delivering this procedure and help explaining this to parents and carers.
Visits to and stays in hospital can be scary for young cancer patients. We hope that by supplying these tools to the ward, it can help them understand a bit more about the procedures they will face and make their experience a bit less intimidating.
We would like to thank everyone that has made a donation that has helped us supply this equipment to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh.
