The Ripple Retreat TEAM
Gillian is one of our team members at the Ripple Retreat and a huge help to It’s good 2 give.
In our latest blog she tells us about the different ways she help us at our Ripple Retreat and what it means to her.
Gillian Says…
“I really enjoy working at the retreat, helping Lynne and Ian.
I am a much more outside kind of person and enjoy doing lots of ‘easy’ DIY and am happy to get dirty!
When Ian decided he would like to reduce the time he spent at the retreat I was asked if I would consider taking a more regular and active role.
Since paperwork and phone calls are not my strength or desire, I jumped at the chance to help there and make a difference. The jobs I do vary from week to week, but know one of the essential jobs I do, after having the risk assessment in place, is doing lots of routine checks, from checking the alarm, salt levels, lighting (including the emergency lights), consumer boards, fire extinguishers… The list is long!
I ensure all the play equipment in the garden is in good clean and working order, liaise with the people who tension the Zip slide, Produlic, (who have supplied most of the garden toys etc). clean the decking, and the pier and even make sure the geese have not left there calling card on the paths!
We all have skills and one of mine is I am incredibly tidy and love order, so keeping the store and plant room organised is right up my street. Although it is still a work in progress, all boxes are labelled, and it’s now easier to keep track and locate items that are needed quickly.
The bottom line is I will do anything that needs to be done – whether it is doing the laundry, washing the floors or changing the beds – but my favourite job is keeping the bird feeders full and making sure there are hazelnuts for the squirrels (little red and his friends) is a firm favourite.
Oh yes, and I love my boiler suit too!”
We would like to thank Gillian for all the amazing work she does to help us support young cancer patients and their families.
She is a real asset to our team.
