Join Nicola Lamb's Nifty Fifty team at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk!

Nic would love 50 people to join her team #NicsNiftyFifty at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise funds for It’s good 2 give.

Here she is to tell you why she’s doing it, how you can get involved and why you should join #NicsNiftyFifty

Why are you walking in the Kiltwalk?

Hi I’m Nicola Lamb and I’m participating in this year’s Edinburgh Kiltwalk on Sunday 17 September to raise funds for It’s good 2 give and I am looking for 50 people to join me!

My family, and I have been supporting It’s good 2 give since my older sister Joanna was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.  Joanna was able to work with the charity for a couple of years before she sadly passed away.  Like Joanna, I’ve been given the amazing opportunity to work closely with the charity to see all that’s involved behind the scenes before I head off to Camp America in the summer. I will be walking the Kiltwalk in memory of Joanna and raising funds for a charity that she loved.

Why should you take part in the Kiltwalk to raise funds for It’s good 2 give?

Its Good 2 Give is a charity that supports young cancer patients and their families in Scotland. Not many charities focus on the family as well, which makes It’s good 2 give very special. They have a variety of services available for families from £100 supermarket vouchers on diagnosis or relapse, psychologists for young cancer patients in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and Parent and Patient packs for emergency unplanned hospital stays. They also provide Lottie dolls and Fairy Box toys for children going through treatment.

How would the money you raise support It’s Good 2 Give?

As well as the day to day support It’s good 2 give provides, families have the opportunity to stay at the Ripple Retreat, Callander.  The Ripple Retreat is a place for families of young cancer patients in Scotland, where they can unwind during the most challenging of times.  This oasis by the water offers families a calm, caring environment to escape the pressures they find themselves facing. It provides a chance to nurture both physical and mental wellbeing in a uniquely beautiful natural retreat away from the everyday realities of living with cancer.

What are the benefits of taking part?

I think there are many personal benefits participating in the Kiltwalk. The main one being that walking is great for your mental health, something I know that It’s good 2 give is very focused on. Another benefit is training will get you exercising more which will also help your physical health.  You have the added benefit of setting your own Kiltwalk distance of 5, 15 or 21 miles.

How might a company benefit from taking part?

A company can benefit from joining the Kiltwalk as it helps with team building as companies could train together at lunch or after work. It can increase office morale and support each other towards a healthier mental balance. Research states just 29 minutes spent outdoors results in a 45% increase in productivity and 63% of surveyed employees say they feel much better “in themselves” after getting some fresh air.

How many people would you like to sign up?

I have an initial target of 50 people, but I would love if there was more than that!

How do I sign up?

It’s so easy, simply visit the Kiltwalk website and choose It’s good 2 give as your charity.  Once you’ve signed up, you’ll have access to an exclusive It’s good 2 give Kiltwalk Facebook group hosted by Nora Murray and Judith Paterson from Balanced Edinburgh.  Here, there will be tips on many things including; advice on footwear, exercises, stretches, planners and even the opportunity to share your playlist or pod cast that gets you motivated to move!

If people can’t do Edinburgh, are there Kiltwalks anywhere else?

Yes, there are other Kiltwalks in, Glasgow, Aberdeen, or Dundee.

Glasgow 30th April.

Aberdeen 4th June.

Dundee 20th August.

Why not join Nicola and support It’s good 2 give this year?
